changing the look

    is there anything i can download so i can change the appearane of ubuntu such as start bar/background/icons etc.

    Of course :) The brown not to your taking then? :D

    Go to System > Preferences

    Use the control panels to change the look + feel.

    You could visit GNOME-Look for themes

    thanks exatly not liking the many forms of brown.lol

    on gnome-look.org how do i use them once iv downloaded them cos iv downloaded glass icons. and cant get them to work.

    One of the advantages of using Linux is that you have your choice of many desktops, not just one like Windows or Mac. Gnome actually isn't very customizable, one of the many reasons I've chosen KDE instead. Perhaps you should look into trying out KDE? If you need directions to do that very thing, look here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingKDE

    i use adept or synaptic for most software installs (including kennel installation or removal and WM installation or removal) But i'm happiest with KDE (haven't tried Gnome, Enlightenment of any other WM's yet, i will try them, but i'm more comfotable with KDE at the moment)
