I got the Sound blaster x-fi extremeMusic edition and it worked fine for past 13 months... All of the sudden, NO SOUND, whatsoever... reinstalled drivers from original cd, no luck... tried to install updated drivers (web 3 update), still no sound... I did clean all the devices and drivers, and software before doing the above... In windows XP control panel >Sound and audio devices> It says NO AUDIO DEVICES but under hardware tab i have my x-fi sitting on pci slot... Under device manager same thing all OK no conflicts, windows sees the card. All my needed windows services are started including theirs dependencies (windows audio + RPC) with the new update I gain Audio Console in Control panel, and it says all card features are there including the card sitting on PCI slot bus 0 and so on... And all mixers and midi are listed there... Any suggestions (without formating HDD) would be helpfull Also does repair of windows instalation wipes my documents? or only the windows dir and all the updates... Thanks, SIMisEK
Welcome To HWF Simisek Is your Onboard Sound disabled from BIOS?.. As you said, all of a sudden...No Sounds - What did you do when this thing happened? Any new Driver/software/hardware installation ?
Yes, BIOS onboard is disabled... I can't exactly remember, and I don't have restore point neither... On the other hand, I tried to use onboard sound, after having no sound for few days, and it did exactly the same thing like with X-FI... So I assume it might be windows software related, but not sure... It can hardly be a MOBO prob...all works fine and it is relatively still new 1 year +- few months.... Can you also answer my last question? (about the windows repair) SIMisEK
I am sure that you are not talkin about overwrite XP. Well in any case the answer will be NO. You will only lose your data if you format your HDD, which means complete installation of windows again.
You assume right, I am talking about doing repair of windows Xp via original CD... If I remember correctly it will only rewrite windows instalation, but it wont delete any data, includes MY DOCUMENTS folder... I have another update, thought... I removed my sound card and installed it in different PCI slot, and it still does same thing... I will probably have to do Windows repair then... I'll give it another few days, till my day off.. if you got, or anybody else, another suggestion, fell free to post. SIMisEK
Yep, you might want to try the latest drivers for it if you haven't already, but otherwise a repair install seems best option. If that doesn't work (if it keeps your current drivers and settings) then you may have to think about a clean install.
