I was just thinking about random stuff and it came to me. How does your body know how long to grow the hair on your legs, arms and genitals?

If you cut it it grows back but only to a certain length. how does your body know how long it is on the outside of the body?

Random i know but its puzzling me, maybe i need to get out more.

I believe it depends on where the hair is at. It's programmed for a certain length, based on genes from both parents.

Not true, there are tiny munchkins that come out with miniature lawnmowers and give them a trim every night when you sleep.

I imagine I'll learn probably more than I want about this next semester in Advanced Placement Biology when we cover genetics and heredity.

no Big B's right, wooooo bio class. Its programmed into your DNA. It tells it to stop growing and ther are like little sensors for a lack of a better word that tells it when its at a certain length

Hair is a filamentous outgrowth of dead cells from the skin, found mainly in mammals.

In some species, it is absent at certain stages of life. It projects from the epidermis, though it grows from hair follicles deep in the dermis. So-called "hairs" (trichomes) are also found on plants. The projections on arthropods, such as insects and spiders are actually insect bristles. The hair of non-human species is commonly referred to as fur. There are varieties of cats, dogs, and mice bred to have little or no visible hair.

It's weird though, it seems your head hair will keep on growing as you said zeus but it slows way down after a while, wonder why that is.

Your hair only growas to a certain length beacuse the flying spaghetti monster made it so, there is pleanty of REAL evidence that the flying spaghetti monster exists so this is obviouslty the truth.

scientists have it all wrong, its much easyer to fidn the truth when you base your evidence on your conclusion rather than your conclusion on your evidence... have you been touched by his noodly appendage? Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

woah, what were we all thiniking, man this will probably change the whole world, this will have reprocussions across the whoe galacy felt by civizations every where. If not all that i bet it will incease some ones starch intake or shoes sales, maybe people will start buliding tabes instead of chairs, thats possibile to. I guess the real question is how is this going to effect the computer market as a whole. It has been said that the spagetti monster effect, also known as the Monstrous getti balls distortion mass trigger wave thats will comsume a whole ninja in two days. Actually that last part was made up. My guess, i think companies will start to making circuit boards out of more starchy materials, and hire chefs instead of factory workers. Shouldn't be to bad
