got solaris and tried to run within VMware, got an error about there being no disks present (presume it meant HDD, cos error also said to check cables & stuff)

my first thought is: solaris is not compatable with VMware, am i right ?

Are you using a virtual SCSI or IDE connection? I know that VMware defaults to SCSI sometimes and not all distributions work with it. Choosing IDE is probably the best option

i unmounted and deleted hdb4 (50G) and unmounted and tried to resize hda1 from 50G to 100 G (you know what i mean, you can see from the screenshot)

BTW: was resizing hdb1 to make space for virtual IDE partition

Oh dear. The last time I saw a an error message similar to "unknown disk label" my partition table had been corrupted.

Might I ask why you are using Solaris?

well clicked ok and table not corrupted, it just seems only the last task was not completed - hdb4 had been deleted but hda1 was still 50G

everything seems fine (but i haven't rebooted yet)
why ? is it not good
