    Hi,

I have just installed a Radeon 9250 AGP 128MB Graphics Video Card in my PC. However, the card does is not recognised by XP and subsequently does not work at all. I have made sure the card is inserted properly as far as I can, and I'm confident that all leads are secure, However, when I plug the monitor in all I get is a blank screnn.

I know the monitor is not at fault, as when I plug it back in to my onboard graphics, the monitor display works. I did not disable my onboard graphics via BIOS before I installed the AGP graphics card. Does anyone think this could be the problem? Is there, could there be a conflict, which is not allowing the graphics card (brand new, I might add) to work?

    Cheers,

    David.

You say the card's new, so really faultyness's probably not the problem. Try to disable that onboard VGA of yours. I've got one too, and it's disabled... came that way by default (I have a card in my AGP slot).

Yes, just tried disabling the onboard graphics, but it did not make any difference. Had to do a BIOS reset to get the onboard graphics working again. Starting to think I've bee sold a duff card.

I'll take my PC to my computer installation and maintenence class on Monday to see if the tutor or other class members can figure out what's wrong. Really P***sed, as what I thought was going to be an easy job (don't they always) has turned out unsuccessful. Just wasted a whole morning on this one way or another. Grrrrr!

good luck with that  just a thought, as well as disabling onboard grfx, make sure the memory your onboard card was using becomes grayed out also there's another setting, i don't remember what it is called, even what it actually does but i do know you can select PCI or AGP just try setting it AGP first

Have you tried safe mode? What kind of system is it? I had a similar problem happen with an old HP machine. I tried to use a known good Radeon 7000 card in the system with the onboard video turned off and the video card would hang in POST. Had an nvidia card of roughly the same power and it worked just fine. Come to find out there's a "known issue" that hp did not publicize regarding the system. Its been 5 years since that happened and they still havent come up with a fix... Anyways, try that and see what you get.

Right, finally got it sorted! first of all the card was not seated right, but I finally managed to get in to work (you would not believe the force I had to apply for to click properly into place!).

However, the system just kept rebooting. I checked out everthing I could think of including resetting the BIOS. Whatever it was - it did not like XP! I've taken XP off the machine now and installed the card in Mandriva and it works perfectly - no problems! I'm just a little p****d with Windows at the moment what with one thing and another. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions.

    David.
