My first experience with an Intel MB, Dual core PCU and PCI-E...The installation instructions are very good right up to the main power connectors. I have a new power supply ..550W V2.0. I have connected the 2x12 connector and the 2x4 connector (using a 2x2 converter). My question is: Do I need to also connect the 1x4 connector on the MB? It isn't even mentioned in the manual but is shown in every picture. Many thanks in advance for HELPPPP.
Motherboard is an IntelD975XBX, The processor is Intel Dual core E6600 2.4 GHz, graphics is ATI X1900XTX PCI-E . The power supply is Thermaltake 55W ATX 12v ver.2.0. It has the 2x12 big power connector and 2x2 that goes through an adapter for the 2x6 connector on the MB. There is still one more regular 1x4 block connector near a heatsink and I don't know whether to power it or not. Is it there for older power supply connectors (i.e. 2x10 instead if 2x12) or does it need power? Intel provides great pics and clear instructions about everything EXCEPT hookup of main power.
A good rule of thumb is that if there's a power connection, it's there for a reason (unless the manual has explicitly stated not to). It's better to plug it in, especially the floppy. Also, the power plugs are keyed so that you can't (well, without a lot of force that would end up breaking something) plug something in incorrectly.
