    Hello,
I hope someone can help me. I just recently put a new system together. I used an AMD processor and motherboard. I used the same components from the other system.

I did a repair to windows xp because I didn't have time to back up the data on the hard drive. I then updated all of the fixes through windows update.

I don't believe I have a virus or trojan running because I have spyware doctor, norton antivirus, Ad aware Se, and spybot search and destroy.

My Cpu is running at 100 % and I can't figure out why. In the task manager, between the svchost.exe and the services they are chewing up all of the cpu.
I ran msconfig to compare between my other pc and the new one. I have more things running at startup but it's not eating up any of this cpu.

Did I possibly hook something up wrong? Or is there something I could turn off at startup. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Jason

Your right to go to task manager to see what is making your cpu work hard.

What task has the highest cpu usage?

Also, its a good idea to reinstall windows when you change motherboard chipsets, though id probably reinstall windows if I changed to a motherboard with the same chipset as my old board. This might be your problem.

It fluctuates between the svchost and services taking almost all of the usage.

The only reason I didn't do a clean install is because I didn't want to lose all the data on the hard drive. I thought if I do a repair and get all of the updates it would work. Was I wrong?

Sorry, I know what you mean now.

It probably will be ok to repair xp like this, I know its fine to do in windows 2000 so.....

Id try unchecking all your startup programs in msconfig, reboot and see what happens. Then just re-check the ones you think are important. I disable all of mine except the firewall and antivirus. I disable the ones in the services tab too, just click the "hide microsoft services" box at the bottom first.

Well I did what you said. It still is maxing out. Now too, when I try to surf the net it gives me a validatio error. Even though the version of windows is legit. I hate microsoft.

I fixed the problem. I uninstalled the printer port for the epson printers in the program files. This took care of the problem. Now to try to get connected to the internet.

Try checking the programs you unchecked in msconfig, as that seems to be when you started getting the internet issues.
