hi everyone,i have a notebook clevo d400s but 256 mb of ram is not enough so im looking to replace it with 1gb and 512 chache is tooo little so im looking to upgrade processor to 2 mb cache.im jst not sure whats compatible.i have pc wizard but im not sure how to see wat my mother board can take.i think i have a 533mhz becus my proccor is 533 mhz.that should mean i need another 533mhz processor ryt?iv looked around and found 3 with 2mb cache at 533mhz.im also not sure about wat memory i need.atm i got pc2700 ddr sdram 64 bit.does that mean my 1 gb has to be pc2700? or doesnt that matter?some feed back and products i could use would be helpfull.i also need a new case as my laptop case is cracking.not sure were to get hold of these tho,any ideas?im also having to purchase a wireless card 4 my laptop as my new inet is wireless.im not sure what speeds i can get with different cards.my speed will be 16 mb but do i have to buy a certain card to get all 16 mb speed on my comp or do all cards take all speeds?thanx

What cpu is in your laptop?, all that extra catch wont make that much difference, you can have PC3200 in the laptop, it will just work as PC2700 though depending what the mobo in your laptop supports, i dont belive new cases for laptops are available, most network cards can handle 100mbps, maybe coz yours is wireless its probs somthing like 54mbps.

I think you may be better off buying a new laptop.

You need to start using sentences! That took ages to read.

If you need a new case, RAM and CPU which also needs to support 2mb Level 2 Cache..... so a new motherboard too (which will get round your wireless problem) you might as well get a new laptop. The only thing you seem to want to keep is the harddrive.

    As for the upgrades.....
If you are getting more RAM then yeah, its best to get the PC2700 (DDR333mhz)

The Laptop you have supports both Celeron and P4 but only 400mhz FSB celerons (I know, it doesnt make sense!) so you seem to have a P4 533mhz FSB. It must have the P4m socket.
I dont know which P4 you have but it must be in the range of 2.4-3.2. They were all 512kb L2 Cache.
The CPUs from Pentium 4 518 to Pentium 4 552 were 1mb cache and 533mhz FSB. The voltage was 0.05v less than the Pentium 4 you will have now so check your motherboard can reduce its Vcore. To be honest its not too much a problem if it cant. You could run your CPU with 0.05v extra without any trouble. Make sure your motherboard supports the 1mb cache CPUs though. It might involve updating your BIOS.

In fact ive just noticed your CPU package type is skt 478!!! Im really surprised!

In which case you still cant have a 2mb Level 2 cache because they were all 800mhz FSB. Your still stuck to the 533mhz FSB 1mb Cache CPUs.

You can get 533mhz FSB Prescott Pentium 4s, the fastest being 2.8ghz.
The prescotts get hot and you have a laptop! Maybe a 3ghz 512kb Northwood P4 would be better?

I suppose it all depends on whether your M/B will support 800mhz FSB. If it does you will be able to get a 2mb cache CPU and probably DDR400.

Dont just be looking at cpu's that have 800mhz fsb and 2mb catch, although most intel cpu's are 800mhz unless they have all moved up to 1000mhz now, but it dont make much difference, are you planning on building a computer or just buying one?

Id go to a local privately run shop and get them to build one for you. Depends on what you ise it for really. It might work out cheaper, it might be more!
