Hey there. First post here btw. Ive just bought a pc so im a bit of a newbie to all this. My P.C came with a ten Gb hard drive.:O Thing is it quickly started to fill up so i deleted pretty much all my music files keeping only my cubase files, which are very small, but it's still pretty much maxed leaving me with 2 Gb to play about with. I have no clue at all what to do i live in hope there is a way to rectify this and any help would be greatly apprieciated. Cheers. Shaun
Which operating system does it have? Windows XP takes up quite a bit of space and you cant really get round that. You rbest bet is to uninstall some programs. You can do this in control panel and then click on add/remove programs. Its possible you have lots of temp files too. Is this the PC you use on the net? If so stay in control panel and go to Internet Option. Slap bang in the middle (under the temp files heading) is a button saying "delete files" It might take quite a while (and even look like its crashed!) but it will get there. Freeing up space on a system can be quite a task sometimes, and you have to be ruthless with the stuff you dont use often. I manage with a system with a 4gb drive and my laptop had a 1gb drive for years. Its only got 2gb now but it does the job. Like I said, you just have to wave goodby to anything you dont use much.
Hey Zeus. Yeah its XP pro for the O.S and yes i use it for the web. I have alraedy got rid of most of the programmes that i don't use i did a disk clean up and defragmented the c;drive too. There is pretty much nuthing on the pc than what it came with other than my cubase sx which does'nt use that much space and the music files i create with are small ranging from 245kbs to 350kbs. I did what you said bout the temp internet files as well but hardly made a dent It's as if there are ghost files eating up space that i cant see in any of the folders Still at loss anymore tips? Cheers.
See if there is any big file lying on your desktop??? also check in your my doccuments if you have anything stored in it.....
Well you could always upgrade your hard drive if money allows. 80GB IDE hard drives are pretty cheap these days, only about £30
