For a while now, my computer has had minor (I would say) stability issues. I have posted numerous topics regarding these over the past year (the most recent one being a BSoD regarding IRQL not equal or less, or words to that extent). Recently, I formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows with the sole intention to have a stable machine with no problems whatsoever. A few days ago (I have had Windows and all necessary software/drivers installed for a approximately month now), I received the BSoD error message again. I made note of it this time and it mentioned "USB PORT.SYS" in the message. A few days before that even, my system randomly rebooted (this hasnt been the first time this has happened either. Probably three or four times altogether in these past two years). It hasnt been a frequent occurance though. I managed to look up the BSoD error mentioned above and one possible cause for this problem is a faulty/inadequate PSU (which out of the suggestions that were made seemed a little more realistic. I can try and find this article again if it may help solve this situation). For a while now (six months perhaps), I have also been a little dubious of my current DVD drive. Sometimes, it acts rather strangely (regardless on whether there is any media present or not). When I want to open the drive, nine times out of ten the LED flickers and the drive makes clicking noises. It then fails to open, but if I press the button again, it opens without a problem. I also find that if I am burning or reading media from the DVD drive, it sometimes has a tendency to shut itself off at frequent or infrequent intervals, the latter being the most common. I have considered it to be a problem with the actual drive, but I then consider issues that I've had with my system on a whole and think that it may also be a power problem. One last problem that I have had (and posted on this forum a few months ago) regards a third HDD (IDE) that I had on my PC. I dont have it installed at the moment, but last time it was, it frequently didnt show up in My Computer. Again, it could be the actual component at fault (it is quite old), but not once did I actually lose any data on the drive (even in the past when it was used on my old system as the boot drive). Sorry if I have gone on a bit, but I just want some opinions regarding the matter. The PSU I have at the moment is a nasty "generic" 550Watts one (judging from reviews and user comments, these cause more problems than what theyre worth). I do plan on getting a new PSU anyway, but I am a little stuck for choice really (especially after reading the PSU sticky at the top of this forum). I plan on using a lot of HDD's in my system eventually as I use my PC for recording audio, which is a heavy resource regarding space. I am uncertain on my budget as of yet, so if anyone could recommend a good stable PSU (from both ends of the price spectrum), particularly for powering drives, I would be greatly appreciative.
HDD's are not much power hungry devices...... What are the full specifications of your SYStem??? I would say, instead of writing it again n again, jst add in MY Computer Link on the top of this page and it will appear just like mine under Avatar n all.....
While I also suspect the PSU, just to make sure it's not something else, run Memtest for a few hours and also check what temps your CPU is running. A general system info program like [google]Everest Home Edition[/google] or a temp monitoring program like [google]Speedfan[/google] will help you monitor it from Windows. You can also access it in the PC Health section in BIOS.
hi first issues USBPORT.sys file maybe demage, reinstall with Windows CD replace your DVD-ROM drive out side the case then try it if running out side the case clean the lens or try another drive i suggest fsp brand or thermaltake at lest 650W note: look for amps. rating higher the better not just Watts rating is important also amps. rating very important. sorry my english
