If you get a screenshot of the process list, then I can look through and see if there is anything suspicious. To get the process list, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and click the processes tab at the top. You can find out what each process does by typing it's name into Google.

I don't know much about 64bit OS', but I think they're supposed to be a bit faster. There are probably some benchmarks showing Vista 32 bit and Vista 64 bit on a Q6600, and you can decide whether it's worth the upgrade then.

I use a batch file which runs the installer exe with the correct arguments to auto-install the software. Not every installer has this option though, you just have to find out by searching the internet.

Have you managed to increase the quality of GTA4? If so, then I'd leave it. I'm not sure how the vista rating thing works, but I wouldn't consider it a worthy benchmark. What you could do it download 3DMark, and run it with the old RAM config and the new one, and see which one performs better.

Try some software called GParted. When it downloads, you burn the image to a disk, and boot from the disk. When booted, you could try formatting again. I've always had success with GParted where other programs have failed.
