    HDD Crash - why?

While I've always like DFT for finding hdd problems, it may also be in your best interest to use a separate drive testing program also such as Seatools. This software also tests the hdd controller and other things. It is a pretty good tool in my experience. Although have to say, if you've DFT'd...

Anyone got experience with Mac OS X?

    1. Already answered 2. Honestly, OSX bores me. I own a Powerbook G3 with OSX that I bought for 200 USD and when I first booted it, I was pretty impressed. After using it for about five minutes, I got bored. Not to say that will be the case with you, but I guess as an avid Linux user...

    New Linux Box!

I really appreciate your input, B. I think I'm going to go with similar RAM but 2x1GB and as for the PSU, I'm going to go with the Tt I linked to. I dunno, I just have a thing for Thermaltake stuff i guess. hope it treats me well.

    Length of Time for repair

Three weeks absolutely does suck, but it is not a strange amount of time for a repair company to take when fixing something. I work at a computer repair shop, but we will take other products for people and ship them out if we can't fix them (ie Vacuums, Ipod, TV, etc). When they get shipped out...

    New Linux Box!

Thanks a lot for your thoughts B. I am now considering between these two PSUs but I'd like a second opinion as to what I'd be better off with. I hear great things about Enermax, but I've never owned one and I've had great experience with Thermaltake... However, I'm always willing to try a new...

    New Linux Box!

So I posted in here a month or two ago asking people's opinions on what chasis to get for my new build, which have slowly been building up money for and I happen to be coming upon a fairly large chunk of change so I'm hoping to get quite a bit more of my system. Here is what I have so far...

Open up the News Articles and Comments Forum to All users

While I am actually really torn on the subject matter, but I think I fall on the not opening up the section to everyone. I totally see the logic in opening it up, and can see where the obvious benefit would be to that, but at the same time B is right. Even with the needed posts before starting a...

Someone in my family stole my PSP

I hate you for that. I just watched 43 seconds of it and i started feeling pressure in my chest. I think you caused a mild heart-attack.

    First part for new computer

Ok, I have had a chance to look at some more cases on newegg this morning and I came up with a few... my problem with all three is that they are ATX mid towers. One of these, i have personally worked with in the past, but I dont remember if it would be big enough to fit the size motherboard and...

    First part for new computer

Thanks pelvis, I will have a look when i wake up (it's 3:05am here and I'm beginning to watch Lady in the Water) If I find a decent looking one, I'll throw a link up here and see if you guys back my opinion on the chassis up. Thanks, I really want a reliable PSU and it'd be nice to not have...

    First part for new computer

Thank you for the suggestion. Honestly, though, I think the case may be too flashy for my blood. I put it in my bookmarks though, because it is still a decent case and is a possibility. About the PSU, I dont care at all what PSU's come with any cases people suggest, because I am already planning...

    First part for new computer

Well, the time has come... I have decided to build a new computer. The only catch is I am building it piece by piece so I can actually afford to do it and having each part will motivate me to finish it.. So, the first part I want to get is the chassis. Basically, I want it to be fairly spacious...

Half of America's Business PC's Can't Run Vista

I was thinking about this subject today actually.. I was thinking.. i really do wonder if part of the reason that Windows worked on something with such high system reqs. I mean - Linux and mac both provide better graphical environments than vista with less specs... so why the high reqs? I wonder...

Warner CEO Admits His Kids Pirated Music

It is still stealing. You may have downloaded it off of someone that bought it and they may have consented to you downloading it, but they don't own the rights to the music. They were sold one copy of the album to use for them self... not one copy to distribute among everyone. I DO think that...

How much computer hardware have you bought this year?

Well, I put down the $1000 - $2000 option... It wouldn't have been nearly as high except I bought a laptop. I'm not sure if that's what was meant by "How much was spent on hardware" but I figured it's close enough. Other than that, I managed to kill my agp 6800gt about 6 months back. So when I...

    X wont load upon reboot

So after a couple of hours talking with AT on gaim, he managed to help me find a few nvidia scripts in /etc/rc3.d/ that I have no idea how they got there, that were trying to install 8774 drivers every time i rebooted. That's no good, obviously... so I had to kdesu ksysv and disable anything...

    X wont load upon reboot

I have /var/log/Xorg.1.log and Xorg.0.log... both of which are pretty long. Here is Xorg.1.log. Boy, this is going to be long: $ :/var/log$ cat Xorg.1.log X Window System Version 7.0.0 Release Date: 21 December 2005 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 7.0 Build Operating System:Linux...

    X wont load upon reboot

Yeah, i didn't realize that mine wasn't working either.. the first time I noticed it was maybe a week ago (i had to shut it down to move my computer), and my uptime at that point was 41 days... so I dont know... maybe it is because of a recent update. As far as to etch from sarge, the answer...

    X wont load upon reboot

I'm not sure about the answer to your problem... in fact, I'm not quite sure what your problem is- one of your last lines is that it "stopped complaining" when you re-installed the drivers. Which gives me the impression that everything is fine now. What did I miss? And my second piece of...

    X wont load upon reboot

So since I almost never reboot my system, I dont know how long this problem has been going on, but when I do reboot, my system (Debian etch), does not boot into X. It just hangs on the blank screen. Nvidia is working fine and no matter how many times I restart kdm, it is still the same problem...
