I just looked at a few reviews for this CPU, it is a little more powerful than an Athlon 64 X2 4400+ - I don't see how it could hold back an 8800GT. I personally think your CPu choice sits nicely above my minimum reccommendation for a CPU combination with that card ;)

well you could try the nFORCE range of chipsets, they are good for overclocking in my experience
