1 x GTX 260 vs 2 x HD 3870 X2

soo i was looking at cards and the GTX 260 is a generally badass card but as i was browsing i saw a good sale on the 3870x2 1GB soo i was thinking if i ran two 3870s in crossfire giving me 2GB that would be pretty bad ass rite? i can throw more in general to the two 3870s then the 1 gtx260.

what do you guys think?

If you can get two 4850’s that would be much better. You should look into that.

yeah but two 3870 X2 would be power hungry have you got a PSU that will be able to feed them???:chk:

Yes, Sir i do… well at least i hope soo

Crossfired 4850’s will outperform crossfired 3870x2s. Just lettin u know. It will also be cooler.

i know crossfired 4850s will outperform crossfired 3870s but two 1GB 4850s cost 350-400 while two 3870s i can get for about 269. im loooking to beat a 260GTX if the 4850s where more cost efficient i would def get them.

wow really???

i am really surprised by that because how can two 4850’s outperform what is effectively FOUR 3870’s

It’s the fault of the drivers and he fact that the 4850 is quite a bit more of a powerhouse then the 3870 and 3870x2. Another factor is drivers in correspondence to the game of choice. COD4 heavily favors single card configurations while other games favor crossfired/SLI configurations.

Here’s a little chart for you to check out, notice how poorly the drivers are configured for crossfired 4870s. It’s still true to date that the crossfired 4850s will outperform/equally perform crossfired 4870s.
Compare ATI Radeon HD 4870 CF , ATI Radeon HD 4850 CF , ATI Radeon HD 4870 , ATI Radeon HD 3870 4CF

Hmm interesting

Yeah, that’s why I would never recommend buying two 4870 cards.
