a 9700Pro is merely a cut down 9800Pro it still has 8 Pipelines, just a slower clock rate - not much slower either.
Not only that but, if you compare the difference (which is very little) between the performance boost ingames of having the extra clock speed of a 9800Pro compared to a 9700Pro and having or not having Dual Channel DDR Memory, the Dual Channel Memory will give you a much more significant performance boost than the extra clock speed difference between graphics cards.
If you want a better card than a 9700Pro you would start looking at the 9800Pro - but for the cost difference you might as well spend another £10-£25 and get a Nvidia 6600GT, which is the best performance for value card out atm.
Costs:
ATI Radeon 9700Pro 128MB (£90 Including vat)
ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128MB (£115-£130 including vat)
Nvidia GeForce 6600GT 128MB (£120-£170 including vat)
and the 6600GT is much better than the 2 ATI’s listed, although for World Of Warcraft you don’t need anything more than a 9700Pro, and a 9700Pro will easily play CS:Source / Half-Life 2 - DOom 3 e.t.c no problem, although not at top graphics
Also, don’t forget to buy a HeatSink & Fan (HSF) - As the Athlon Mobiles (called mobiles because they were designed for use in laptops) dont come with a HSF retail
Also, they are INCREDIBLY good for overclocking, they come out of the box (stock) at 1.83Ghz i believe, but are more than capable of reaching 2.4-2.7Ghz, although you wouldn’t need 2 overclock for WOW.
I highly recommend the Only Zalman Socket A cooler thats on overclockers.co.uk’s website - very quiet and very good at cooling.
