I have just got a 9800 pro second hand of a trustworthy friend.
It overheats while playing games and during 3d mark 2001. I thought it was due to poor airflow in my case so i bought a new case with extra fans. it lasts longer but it still overheats.
It is fitted with an arctic cooler instead of the normal fan.
I am totally out of ideas and seriously cracking up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
How many fans are in the case, what case is it, and you might be interested in getting a Pci fan
I used to have one of those, moves a ton of air and blue lights are awesome

It’s a chieftec case. 2 Fans at the front, 2 Fans at the back and one on the side. My old case only had 2 fans, one at the front and one at the back. The one at the front was blocked off though so airflow was poor.
I am pretty sure it’s something to do with the arctic cooler on the graphics card.
Yes by the sounds of things the artic cooler has not been installed properly.
As is the same with a CPU / Heat Sink & Fan, if the Heatsink is not properly seated onto the CPU then it will not cool properly.
I suggest removing your graphics card from your system, and making sure that the artic cooler is seated properly and attached as tightly as possible.
If it is not seated properly, or not touching the GPU core properly then you’ll get over heating problems.
