A decent graphics card for gaming?

hi,
im new too this forum and i have no idea how many times this queston has been asked. im after a decent AGP graphics card for playing games on, im on a tight budget so i dont want to be spending my life savings on a new graphics card.
ATM im playing battlefield 2, half-life 2, MoH spearhead, delta force :black hawk down, CS: source and i think that is about it, i would like to be able to play all these on full graphics, battlefield 2 especialy.
my system spec atm is:
amd 64 3400+
1gb pc3200
asrock k8 combo-z ← motherboard
500w psu
gainward 5600 agp nvidia graphics card.

i can play spearhead on full graphics with a decent fps with this card, but its not a very demanding game.
half-life 2 i can play on medium graphics fine.
battlefield 2 i can play on low/medium graphics, but this is my favourite game atm so i would like to be able to play it on medium/full grapics.

so im after an AGP graphics card that will be able to play battlefield 2 on medium/full graphics without having to break the piggy bank.
its been suggested that the ati 9800 pro would do the job, but im doubtful of that:rolleyes: . im quiet interested in the ati x800 or nvidia 6800.

you guys got any suggestions?

thanks a bunch

Jason

I’d suggest a 6600GT. They’re not the best, I don’t think you wanna pay 500+ dollars for a card but they beat down 9800 pro’s and only cost a little more.

do you thin an ati x800 pro would do the job? its in my price range

good suggestion ninja, 6600GT is a really decent card

yea an X800 will surely do it but if ur willing to spend more go wit a X800XT

for like 30 bucks more than a pro you can get an XT platinum for 280 with free 2 day shipping

that one is out of stock right now but they also have another XT for the same prce

what about this one: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=83354

6800le i understand it can be overclocked pretty well. would it be able to play battlefield 2 on full graphics???

i think the X800 XTs are your best bet. Probaly one of the best AGP cards out there
the x800 xt has double be Pipelines, and far higher clock speeds, and i know you will be able to play maxed out graphics and 1280 1024 with the XT PE

is that $280? im from the U.K. wish i was in the US, its so much cheaper than the U.K.

sorry thats is US i didnt realize you were in teh UK, ill go see if i can find a good deal from a UK store. What is your price range.

ermm… i dont want to spend much more than £130 which is pushing it really.

i need a job:D

ok

im thinking you should probably go with a geforce 6800
heres one for £95.00 http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=12479642971&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=98265

it is 25 MHz faster core clock than the LE and 4 more pixel pipelines, from what i understand the LE is a toned down version of this.

thanks mate, you’ve been a great help.

heres a good place online for u U.K peeps
(jus wonderin do they ship in the U.S?)

Yeah i forgot about overclockers.uk
well heres a link for the same card from there website
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeForce_6800.html
same price
why would you want to ship overseas when you have newegg(aka best place ever) right here at home.

Nice, if you can come up with a 256MB X800, X800GTO or X800Pro that would be even better.

newegg is ok
but overclockers seem to have sum WAYYYYY better prices than newegg

Overclockers US I assume you’re refering to? Yeah they do get a lot of nice deals, though I’ve never had a problem with Neweggs prices.

you do realize british pounds are worth more than the US dollar, and the prices might translate over to be more expensive than newegg prices.(i think)
