It’s awful isn’t it 
Sometimes the sound doesn’t work, sometimes the video doesn’t work. And when they do work together, they are never in sync (and Adobe knows about this bug).
Adobe Flash 9 cannot come soon enough IMO. It will run over ALSA for sound (not OSS anymore) and the syncing will be fixed… Ashame it’s not due till next year.
Sometimes sound didnt work in Mandriva, but other distros seemed to work.

Flash in Linux is terrible. I’ve heard Gnash, an open source & OpenGL accellerated Flash player, rocks all over the commercial Flash client for Linux. Unfortunately, I haven’t tried it yet. That said, here’s a review with screenshots of Gnash in action:

At the bottom of the page, the reviewer has some Gnash binaries he built for dapper. Use at your own risk, etc. etc.
Most of the time it works okay, like in YouTube etc. But I can never get it to work properly in the CNET news videos. Doesn’t make a difference what browser I run it in either.
Agreed, flash really sucks on anything but Windows/Mac. I am not too happy about Flash 9 using ALSA because freeBSD doesn’t have ALSA. :doh:
I heard that there will be an abstraction layer (forgot what its called) to run ALSA with OSS under freeBSD. Damn adobe.

I agree that OSS is a little outdated but I don’t have a problem with it. I’ve used on linux a few years ago and I use it now on freeBSD. It works. I’m going to do some research and see if there are any plans to improve the freeBSD sound system but I doubt it’s a priority. Maybe alsa is being ported over, maybe that’s impossible, maybe it doesn’t matter. With the linux compatability layer, I can run linux alsa libraries but I don’t know if that solves the problem.
Honestly, I doubt that Adobe gives a rat’s ass about linux and has even worse feelings for BSD. Bring on the open source alternatives.[/ot]
