Advice on buying a Laptop

Hi there.

I have been lucky enough to be allowed by my university to buy a Laptop for my Use. I was a bit confused on what to buy. There is lots of stuff to see while buying a laptop, so i thought i must gather some advice. This is my requirement. BTW i m looking for a New piece not a used one.

  1. Display 11 or 12 Inch.
  2. Intel Processor (Core, Core2Duo) (32 Bit)
  3. Memory, Minimum 2GB
  4. HDD , Minimum 100GB
  5. Motherboard with Serial Port, USB
  6. Bluetooth and LAN
  7. Maker doesnt matter, anyone will do, Sony, Toshiba, Dell, Asus etc.
  8. Price Range 400$ ~ 600$

Please suggest the one that looks good to you. Links will be much appreciated. Thanks

I want to do some programming and other projects on this laptop. Most of them have an ATOM processor, is it good for programming and doing Server Client Stuff?
