alright, let me know what you think of my first setup..

so after much forum help, ive decided to go with this for now
(potential further fans/cooling to come if i so desire)

cooler master centurion 5 case - $55

foxconn nforce 4 ultra atx 939 socket mobo - $97

amd athlon 64 3200+ venice - $190 (made the stretch of 40 bucks for another 0.2 ghz over 3000+)

g.skill 2x512 dual channel pc3200 cas2 ram - $100

atrix 500w psu - 26

gigabyte geforce 6600gt pci express - $160 (free optical mouse combo)

total - 627 + 40 shipping (and whatever tax?) = ~670

taking all peripherals, hard drives, and cd-rw from old system

aside from the ugly motherboard, im pretty pleased, any comments, thoughts? i could still go another 20 bucks somewhere..

power supply is a piece of garbage.

I’d take a look at that one, power supplies are crucial now days :frowning: that means you gotta shell out big bucks or your system won’t even boot up or will have various problems and possible hardware damage

yeah true to everything ninja just said, good pick with the video card, you’ll get very good bang for your buck.

i would pick diffrent RAM though, preferably kingston or corsair , just non ECC

the memory i have listed is non ecc…

and what about this power supply?

your RAM is fine, I’ve heard some very pleasing things about GSKILL and read some good reviews.

As for the power supply, it’s cheap. Has high enough amps to run your system but I challenge Roswill’s credibility to provide a quality, stable Power supply. It’s just cheap.

unfortunately i cant stretch much more beyond cheap :frowning:

then how about… this psu

or wait, now looking at it i dont think its enough amps, im being told by a friend at least 24 amps is needed at 12v

but so this looks like it fits criteria..any better?

Might work, Power supplies are a critical part of your system, I would get that last one and not use it for any lengths of time. I would save up and buy that enermax as soon as I would be able to because when cheap power supplies go, which they often do, they usually can take out and fry other pieces of hardware.

Thats better, you’ll be able to overclock your CPU to 3200 speeds anyway.
