After building a new system I passed my old computer down the family.
Its got a AMD Duron 900 processor and the fan recently blew.
Im going to replace the heatsink as well but I need to know what socket Duron 900’s use?
Socket A ![]()
Socket A, also known as socket 462.
All Durons will be Socket A.
Socket A.
This is an old duron mind you
and i heard that older duron’s took a different socket (i cant remember where or if i heard this  ) So are you guys certain that all durons ever have been socket A?
The 900MHZ ones use Socket A.

Yes. All Durons are socket A. Before this was socket 7 which AMD used for their K6 processors. Then came the short-lived Slot A for early Athlons. Then Socket A which has been the socket for AMD from 2000 to just recently. The Athlon 64-bit CPU’s run in either Socket 754 or 939. The Sempron (basically the CPU that takes over the Duron’s place, comes in Socket A or Socket 754.
All Durons from 600MHz all the way up to the 1.8GHz one are socket A.
600MHz-950MHz used the Spitfire core, which is what you have.
1GHz-1.3GHz used the Morgan core.
1.4GHz-1.8GHz use the Applebred core, and the last Duron core.
And of course, you can always check with AMD themselves…
Top stuff
Thanks Guys :good:
Spitfires good. Must say that mhz for mhz durons kicked celeron ass but not so sure for p3s.
