ati2dvag.dll error

I’ve looked around on the internet for the answer to this, and found some info but I’m not sure what to do.

Recently, my monitor has been freezing, going kinda pixellated, receiving no signal or saying it is out of timing. Some times when it freezes etc, the pc will restart and a blue screen appears which says that says there was an error with the file ati2dvag.dll. Then a physical dump of memory occurs and then as the computer restarts the error may occur again. This happens several times, at different points almost every time. I know it has something to do with the drivers, I ust don’t know what to do exactly.

I know that you guys will know a lot more than I do.

Any help is appreciated.

That is a component of the ATI graphics driver. I would suggest to install the latest driver from Advanced Micro Devices - Smarter Choice - Graphics and Media Processors.

Do I need to delete the old driver first? And also do I save it to a specific place?

No, you just need to download and run the driver installer. The old driver will be upgraded automatically.

Just installed it, but first time I restarted, the screen went all funny again. Tried again, same result. Tried one more time, and everything is alright, except whenever a menu comes up via a right click it is really slow. Nothing seems to have changed.

Anybody know what to try next then? Sorry to be impatient but I’ve got some important school work to do and this problem is causing real disruptions when I try to do it.

Right. Whilst trying to get on the computer without some kind of error, I had all the usual stuff, but I had a new error, like the ‘ati2dvag.dll’ one. Except this time it was an error with ‘BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER’, it came up with a blue screen and said there was a problem with that.

Please, if anyone has any idea of what to do, please say because I’m in serious danger of shoving my fist through the monitor.

Look in Device Manager. Are there any exclamation marks?

Bit of a stupid question, is it possible to only connect mouse, keyboard and monitor to the pc (disconnecting all other hardware)? In that case, see if the problem is still there.

Try the following: go to Contol Panel > Display properties. Then Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot. Put the slider to the 2nd setting from the left (disable all but basic acceleration). Now click on OK on both windows.

OK, I did that. Next time I turn on the computer I will tell you whether the problem is solved or not.

The problem still remains, when I switched on this morning the screen froze again.

Do you have a read square with ATI inside on your system tray (right on the taskbar)?

Nope, no red sqaure.

In that case, I think it is caused by the driver. Download that driver again. Remove the existing ATI driver first (control panel > add/remove programs). Then reboot, and then install the driver again.

By any chance, do you have a space ATI graphics card?
