AMD ATHLON-64 K8 754
i need to know the best motherboard to accomodate this chip
my choices are the motherboards on this site

i also understand that the 939 chips are heaps better and better for the future .. but .. :swear: they are expensive
so could u please advise me what the best mobo would be

If you havn’t purchased the cpu yet then I’d buy a socket 939 mobo and cpu to go with it. I’d go with a a mobo by MSI or Asus, but I’ve heard bad rumours about some Epox mobos.
Stay far far away from Epox, as they seem to have some serious quality control issues in recent history.
Probably the best bet would be MSI, especially if their Socket 754 boards are anything like the K8N Neo 2.

the main prob is the money, i have to keep it under 2000 AUS and thats including monitor, how can i link u to that website if i cant use normal linkage?

i cant go to the 939 chips cause they are so friggen expensive and there are only like 3 mobos avaliable from this site ..
would i be better off going with the Socket A chips? of maybe intel?
im confused.. im good at shopping for everything else but mobo’s

If it absolutely has to be a motherboard from that list, I’d take the MSI K8T Neo.
However, I suggest you go with the MSI K8N Neo, which is basically the same board with an nvidia chipset, instead of via.
I admit there is a significant price difference.

Is there much of a performance difference between the via and nvidia nforce chipsets anyway? With new tech i wouldn’t imagiine a noticable difference.
This board has the revised version of the nforce3 chipset, and has working pci/agp locks.
Performance should be on nvidia’s side but my guess is the K8T is an older board, therefore cheaper.
