my computers had this problem for quite a while, and i still can’t fix it. Whilst using the computer the screen freezes and then goes black and comes back on. This happens quite often. I have already exchanged my monitor but i am still having this problem.
I have a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000.
I was thinking thius might new drivers, but i have tried to download this aswell, but nothing has changed.
Please help…

Did you install the latest forceware? (i think they are 77.72).
Also try re-installing DirectX 9.0c if possible!
Can you try the card in a different computer (or a different card in your computer)as this could rule out Video Card problems!
HI Sem !
Is this happening while you play games , on the net , idle ?
it doesn’t matter what i’m doing, i can be surfing the net, or it can be idle and it still does it. Can’t remember if it does it while a dvd is running.
I think i’v download Forceware 76.41 and 77.77.
76.41 from guru3d.com
77.77 from MSI website
You might also try the latest nVidia Omega Drivers >
http://www.omegadrivers.net/
and check the heatsink is installed properly on the video card!
I’v downloaded the omerga drivers and Direct X 9.0c aswell. Will post if i get the blinking again.
ok, it’s still blinking… a little less though
Is it possible for you to do what pelvis said and try a different card or try your card in another machine ! If you’ve noticed a slight improvement with the omega drivers it very well could just be your card !
Your card could be wasted and or overheating very quickly !!
hmmmm, can you try the card in a different computer?
i don’t think i have another card…
i don’t have another computer either…
Not even a friends computer or onbaord graphics at least?
hmm, i’m gonna have to find someone
Also if your GF MX4000 is an AGP 8X card you can try lowering the interface to 4X and turn off AGP Fastwrites and see what happens!
eh???
Do you know how to get into your system bios to change agp settings ? F1 or DEL usually when you turn your machine on and it starts booting ! Look for Advanced chipset features and locate fast writes , agp 4x 8x etc ! Dont change anything your not sure about as you can do major damage !
re Pelvis - not sure about turning fast writes off on a nvidia card , ATI are ok to do so !
Or an easier way >
Download this program >
http://www.nvhardpage.com/files/nvhp20b5.zip
and then follow the pic’s! >

and then do this >

As leeshore said, if you are unsure about changing these settings then don’t but no harm can come of this!
ok
i’v done that
do i need to restart??
Best to !!
