Hi was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me??
A friend of mine was trying to add more ram to my deskyop computer, when he did he did so incorrectly and smoke seemed to be billowing out of my computer when he turned it on!!
So he turned off the computer quickly on the mains and the smoke stoped leaving a burning type smell in the room and took out the new ram.
Now all that happens when you turn on the computer is for the power light to come on and for the fan to kick in and nothing else comes up on the monitor!! Does this mean that the motherboard has been blown? and could there be anything else that has been damaged?
No i cant really see any damage to the mother board which is the strange thing! i think when he put in the ram it did not go in completely! ig worst comes to worst will it be possible to get all of the documents from my hard drive?
remove the mobo, if possible, & look for burn or scorch marks and / or any blown components (e.g. capacitors)
and try it with only the CPU, RAM, PSU & grfx card (if not onboard grfx)
yes, to retrive your stuff just attach your HDD (as a slave on the primery channel, assuming your using IDE)
