Hey, I’ve got an old pc, which has just had a new hard drive installed.

I kept the old hard drive in there and just installed XP to the new hard drive.

So I know have 2 versions of XP on my computer, however, my old hard drive is on the way out, and all the boot settings are on there.

Does anyone know how to write a new mbr to the new hard drive? So it looks on there for boot information insted of my old drive?

New hard drive set as master and old hard drive set as slave. You can’t boot the old.But you still can access the files through new..

New HDD == SATA old HDD == IDE

Does the master/slave setting really matter?

No, since the new one is SATA, that wont matter. What you will have to do is go into the BIOS and change the boot order. Not just the CD ROM - HDD - Floppy boot order, but the hdd boot order. Most newer BIOS’ have a hdd boot order. So be sure to check for that and you’ll be able to specify the SATA hdd as the primary boot drive.
