Any way firstly have any of you guys dealt with microdirect? Are they good or bad? Also anybody know where I can get a better deal??

I hear they are quite good, and WOW 300GB for £82.24…thats amazing!
hmm well I don’t like Maxtor but if you’ve had a perfectly good one and trust them go with it!

Still don’t agree I’m afraid, so I can’t recommend it. Many people have had reliable Maxtors, but the same can be said otherwise.

just be sure to get a hard drive cooler with it.

I literally wouldn’t use Maxtor if they were giving them away for free. The more capacity, the more you stand to lose when they die.

Personally i think 300GB is overkill, 160GB is usually fine for most users, unless of course your a diehard audiophile and need to have your whole hard drive full of music and videos!

Yeah, I agree with AT and NF. 300 gigs IS overkill. I have a 200 gig HDD, and I’m not even halfway full. Heck, i didn’t fill my 80 gig HDD. And as far as the Maxtor, even though you’ve had one that worked well, it’s reputation is that it is more likely to die. Why take the chance of losing all of your data. Instead, spend a few extra bucks and get a Western Digital or a Seagate and you can rest easy.

Exactly. 300GB is a lot of data lose.

my 160 gb western digital died and that was also a lot of data to loose. For that price and my own experience with maxtor im willing to take the risk.

Nice. Ask a lot of people for advice, disregard that advice. Makes perfect sense(???).

Funny thing… I just worked on a half-dozen systems today that had Maxtor HDDs in them. Those drives were beat up. For example, one particular drive took over one and a half hours to format, and it was only 60gb. They were even well taken care of and in chassis with excellent cooling. I can’t imagine they’d have worked at all if it was otherwise.

Heh, yeah they probably would have died looong before…

Less space but it’s still more than enough I would think, plus it’s Seagate
