I have a Samsung Pleomax UHD-6G USB drive that doesn’t work anymore. I bought it used so I can’t return it to Samsung for exchange because I don’t have a retail purchase receipt.
Anyway, the hard drive inside is a Seagate ST660211CF. I have access to another ST660211CF. So, I was wondering if there’s a way to remove the Seagate hard drive from the board without destroying the board.
The HD is not attached to the board with screws.

Yes, i would bet that you can! try stripping away stickers etc and anything that you can get off until you work out how the HD is attached to the board. If you find that it is glued i guess you could try using a hair dryer to heat up (and hopefully soften) the glue.
If its allready broken, you’ve got nothing to loose by trying 
Looks to me that the CF microdrive is just wedged between the IDE pins on top (soldered to the board) and the USB thingy (marked CN2) at the bottom which is also soldered to the board. So I can’t pull it off from the IDE pins with that USB thingy in the way.
I’m not sure if the board is not working. That’s what I would like to test with another CF MD which is why I would like to preserve the board.
Hmmm, but I sure am having a hard time holding myself back from wrecking that board apart! :chk: Curiosity will get the better of me someday.

Was finally able to pull off the CF MD after a bit of wiggling.

I haven’t tried it yet. I’ll get the other CF MD next week. Will let you know then.
I do wish though that this works with CF cards. I tried a 512 MB CF card which didn’t work which may be because of the size (512 MB) or because it’s a memory card (maybe the board and pins are configured for IDE only?).
