Cannot boot from CD/DVD ROM

Hi,

I have recently bought a new computer but it seems to be something odd about it.

I cannot get it to boot from CD/DVD ROM no matter what I do inside the BIOS! I have changed First Boot device = CD ROM, Second Boot device = (HDD) or (Disabled). (I have tried both.) This would work on my old machine and to my understanding it should work on all. I have also entered the Boot menu by F12 and tried to boot if from CD there. This of course makes it imposible to reinstall the OS without removing the harddisk and formatting it as a second disk in annother computer! (It will install an OS from CD/DVD if the hardbisk is empty)

I am wondering if this is because I have a SATA serial CD/DVD writer now where as on the old PC I have an IDE. Just a guess. The two hardware items are:

Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H 880G Socket AM3 8 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard
Samsung SH-S223 22x DVD±RW DL & RAM SATA Optical Drive - OEM Black

Does anyone know why this is and how it can be corrected?

unlikely, pressing F12 will not do anything regarding booting a LiveCD because the OS has already taken over the whole system, although pressing at the BIOS loading screen may present you with a multiple boot options, including “boot CD” although the actual key may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer

or you could try booting USB by extracting the .ISO image to your USB with 7zip
