Recently im experiencing a strange problem on WMP11 , when I play movie clips I only hear the sound but the screen is black. I didnt do any hardware or software changes on my pc recently so I dont see any reason why this is not working how it was ! Im running WIN XP PRO with all the latest updates.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have any other media players that you can use to test with? If it works on neither player you may have a driver problem.
Seeing as WMP is rather dependent on DirectX tools you may also want to test DirectX on your system too, more specifically DirectDraw and Direct3D.
Go to the Run box and type"dxdiag". Then choose the Display tab where you can test DirectX components.

I think you need to download the right codecs. You usually need something like XVID to decode most movies. Get it here:
Download the XviD Codec - XviD Movies

Or use the k-lite codec pack - it has EVERYTHING
Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 3.6.0 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 3.6.0 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 3.6.0 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools
Edit - I have had an issue with WMP11 for video, i solved it by fiddling with the brightness/gamma/hue controlls from within WMP11

I downloaded the codecs you mentioned but still I cant see video clips. Only sound ! DVD movies are working but.
I tried to open the video clips with Nero Showtime and they worked perfectly.

Something to do with WMPs config then.
I have had an issue with WMP11 for video, i solved it by fiddling with the brightness/gamma/hue controlls from within WMP11
I remember reading something similar to this somewhere else. It would seem a likely source of problems especially with Video Clips. Are they clips from the net or from a video camera?
The clips are downloaded from the net. The same clips work perfectly on Nero showtime !

You can reinstall WMP from the link below which should contain all the codecs currently supported. Note. This is directly from Ms
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download
Reinstalling didnt help either ! There must be something strange ! I really dont know what to do next !

Maybe your missing a file from the [COLOR=“DarkOrange”]\system32 folder? It’s happened to me before and i had to restore the files.
I suggest you insert your Windows XP disc, and restore your files.
Do this by typing “CMD” in your RUN from the start menu.
then in CMD, type SFC/SCANNOW (every capitalized word here is NOT case sensitive… including this and the previous NOT… )
