Well, they say ‘the Devil makes work for idle hands.’ This morning I was trying to remove an old CD-Rom drive from my PC to put in a spare CD rewriter. I didn’t really need to install it, but I had time on my hands and felt the urge to do something.
On trying to remove one of the Philips retaining screws, I burred its head! Now, of course, I can’t remove the drive. I’m guessing that this has happened before. Any ideas as to how I could remove the burred screw head?
I know that there are tools that facilitate removal of screws, but they are generally for far larger screws. With something as delicate as a PC’s interior and its internal components, I don’t think those tools would be practical.

if your screw is also bolt headed you could use a spanner, if not i’d use a pair of pliers

Yes, been trying the Philips screw head with a small pair of narrow-nosed pliers - will have to get larger pliers out, as get get any purchase with the smaller ones.
failing that - the only thing i can think of would be to drill out the screw, the cd driv doesn’t need all 4 screws, i only use 1 screw to hold my drives in

I ve something weared in my mind…Rub that screw or cut it from two sides like ( ) and make it like a bolt, then use pliers.

what exactly do yo mean Karanislove, i think you mean file opposite sides of the screw head to make it easier to grip with pliers, i that correct ?

thats exactly what i’d do. just file the edges until they become easy to grip with the pliers.
I would be carefull about filing the screw… wave a mangent acround to pick up any filings (and turn the case upside down to make sure there all gone) as there is the potential for them to short out components!
