I need help to completely erase my laptop HD in order to re-install WIN XP Pro. I
have a 8 month old Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop. I get a fatal error ("internal error has
caused this process to fail) when using my install disks (6 install + 1 recovery disk + 1
supplemental disk) with the option “destructive format & restore to factory state”.
After I bought XP Pro from Lenovo to replace Vista Business edition, there was no
sound so I did a no no and installed my copy of XP for my gateway desktop on the
laptop which now boots ok but is only good for 30 days unless a multiple liscense is
purchased. I believe if I can get back to a clean install of XP Pro, I can then solve the
audio problem.
At this point, Lenovo sent me to a site to download a version of PC Doctor for Dos for
my machine but won’t tell me how to use it. I think I’m supposed to somehow use PC
Doctor with burning SW (I have Nero & Cyberlink Power2Go) to create a bootable
CD (or DVD?) and then use it to boot my laptop and hopefully see an option to
completely wipe the HD clean. I can locate the ISO file but don’t know how to use it to
create the boot disk. Also, I have to create the boot DVD on my desktop since I don’t
have the SW, that I know of to burn a boot disk on my laptop.
Any help is appreciated.
By the way, there’s more tragic-comedy to this story due to bad advice from tech.
support and frustration on my part.
