Creating A Service Pack 2 CD

Windows XP Security Guide

Great guide there Megamaced…

Regarding the Recovery Console

To install it, you need to insert the Windows XP installation CD into your computer. Click start > run > then type x:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons (X:\ represents your CD-ROM drive letter). A notice will pop up asking if you want to go ahead, just press OK and away you go. The next time you reboot, you will see it as a start up option,

A Problem i’m getting is that when i try this it I get a Stop error.. “Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD.”
My Win XP CD is before SP1 I think, but my current installation has SP2 plus a load more updates since the disc was produced…
Did a search for winnt32.exe on my C:\ (inc system & hidden files) and closest I got was WINNT32.EXE-2CC9F0A3.pf file…

Any Ideas?

I’ve come across this before. The reason it won’t work is because you have installed Service Pack 2.

There are two things you can do to amend this:

  1. Obtain a Windows XP SP2 CD.

  2. Merge Service Pack 2 with your current Installation CD. You will need a CD Writer for this.
