According to The Tech Report Creative has gone after iD because of something in D00M 3, and at least 8 other companies have received a letter regarding a patent infringement.
I happen to think Creative sucks, and think that this could just be a move to capitalize on D00M 3. But that’s just me and my extreme bias.
