CUPS is driving me crazy...

I am trying to share a printer across the network using CUPS. All client computers run Linux. When I try to save changes I make to CUPS using the web adminstrator page (127.0.0.1:631/admin) I get asked for a user name and password. Neither my personal credentials, nor root can be used! I haven’t a clue which user name to use!

I am also stumped as to how to connect to the shared CUPS printer? I know I need to enter an address starting with IPP:// but that’s it. I don’t even know if my printer is shared yet. God…

I’ve got the printer shared via Samba and that works, but it’s pointless because I have no Windows clients!

Thanks, I managed to share the printer without using the web interface.

Sharing the printer wasn’t the hard part, but finding the relevant information was. As ever, Linux is easy if you know how. Or should I say, sharing a printer via CUPS is easy… after 3 hours of pain, torture and suffering. But now I’ve worked it all out, it shouldn’t take me more then a minute to set up again in future
