Okay, so I was wondering if there was any way that my existing external DVD-RW drive could read/write to double density discs? I know that the format is totally different, but is it possible to make these discs compatible with my drive via a firmware upgrade or modification or is it scrictly a hardware issue? Don’t ask me why I’m interested in trying this, it’s just one of those things… Thanks!

Sorry, i should have explained that a little better… DD-RW’s were developed by Sony… basically they are CD-RW’s with double the density (they still follow the same read/write pattern, but just with more space. I was just wondering if current DVD-RW drives can adjust to this standard and be able to read and write to Double Density CD-R/RW’s?
sorry i thought DD was a typo for DVD, if you have any old CD writing software like PacketCD you can create a compressed CD (1.5 Gb, but i thing it only works with old 600Mb CD, although it may work, i haven’t tried it, i think the discs were formated differently, with a multi session CD-r you could add more data to a CD, they were called UDF formatted discs, Win9x required a driver to read UDF discs
Ah, another Sony attempt to push a new format. Unless there’s a firmware update for the drive that allows you do do DD discs, my guess is most likely not.
It never really caught on (as with most ‘Sony-goes-solo’ media formats), so I’d be surprised to see the DD format on a non-DD drive.
