You need to know what Motherboard you have and the socket, This will let you know on what processor’s will work… Download a program called Everest, It is a identifer software.. Is this a DELL GX280 ?

Your Motherboard is a LGA-775 socket and it says it will support CPU’s up to 3.8.., But It will have to be for 775 socket…
May I ask why do you want to upgrade to the 3.4 ghz ? I don’t think you will notice any difference.. How much ram do you have ?
