I need a free piece of software to handle DVD playback (aka just watching DVDs) in Windows XP. I found two, but both included free spyware. So any help would be appreciated.
You can use most video players, but you’ll need the correct codecs to play DVDs. Get [google]XviD[/google] and install it and you should be able to play DVDs in your media player of choice.
Can Xvid replace Real also?

No its a free mpeg4 codec, not a real codec. You can however get something like Real Alternative instead of the official realplayer.
I installed DivX codecs pack and I never had any problem playin real files in Windows Media Player~!
Since I found the K-Lite mega pack -
Download K-Lite Codec Pack
I never use anything else.
It is the most comprehensive player I have seen to date playing, I think everything under the sun!
It is free as in the air you breath and as far as I know does not contain any rubbish.
Give it a go… ![]()
