DVD Rw drive not recognised on Windows XP

Hi All.

Hi, I have a Packard Bell I-Media Desktop 3063 running on Windows XP Home Edition.

All of a sudden, it is has developed problems:

  • It is not reading Discs when I place them in the drive. (Not recognising Drive D: On ‘My Computer’, which means that i cannot download any new software on to my DVDrw drive.

Windows Media Player all of a sudden will not let me rip cd’s on to its software (but i can rip cd’s from another software package i have.)

I do not know why this has suddenly happened on my machine.

My only conclusion is that i recently installed Roxio cd burner/ripper on to my hard drive, but found that i did not need it, and uninstalled it from the control panel. Maybe it has deleted some installed drivers?

Do you think i would have to update/reinstall the drivers from the BIOS?

I am really confused on what to do about this, so if any one would be kind enough to advise me, then i would be most grateful.

Uninstalling from the control panel does not remove everything…
Download and install CCleaner At CCleaner - Home

Scan the registry… Back it up as it will instruct you to do…and remove the crap that is left behind.

most likley your DVD / CD drive has gone to the big computer shop in the sky, as DVD & CD actually use a different laser read CDs & DVDs, although it could just need cleaning try cleaning it first & if nothing with DVDs get a new drive, DVDRW drives are not that expensive nowadays

Thanks for replying guys - problem has been solved - just seemed to be a dodgy dvd disk i loaded and rebooted my machine and left overnight, and now is fine!
