External Harddrive encloure...

I had/have a WD My Book external. I was able to determine that the power supply stopped working, but I wasn’t about to let the 500GB HDD go to waste! I took the drive out and bought a Rocketfish RF-AHD35 external enclosure. To my dismay it only halfway worked! The enclosure has a memory card reader and 2 USB ports on the front, and I was able to confirm that they worked by plugging things in. I’ve tried everything, I’ve tried it on 2 Vista computers and one XP. I then wanted to confirm that the drive actually worked, so I hooked it up on the inside of my HTPC and it does. So then I reformatted it and made sure to check that it was a large single partition. It was formatted as NTFS. I then put the HDD back into the enclosure and tried again…no luck. When I plug it into my computer and then look at all the devices connected to my computer it recognizes that something is there, but when I click on it, it says to please plug a drive in to R: or whatever drive letter it is. The harddrive doesn’t spin up when it is inside the enclosure, but it does when its hooked up to the PC internally.

I’ve called Rocketfish twice, and their latest suggestion was to try jumpers. I ordered some but while I am waiting for them, what else could I try? Do the jumpers even make sense for this? They said to put it into master. I have every reason to believe that the harddrive and the enclosure both work.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
