I have an 80 Gig Hard Drive External which I use for my backups.
Started getting some errors yesterday, used to be when I got an error I would just unplug its power supply and replug it back in, but this time this did not work
I used Windows XP Disk Check on it and the check ran for 24 hours but when it got to phase 3 it got an error that was unrecoverable.
I have tried both rebooting my system and doing a system restore but I still get this message;
USB Device not Recognized
Is there anything that can be done to fix this?
If this can’t be done what if I take the drive out of the enclosure and install in my system, Will I then be able to retrieve the data?
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
If the drive is dead sorry. You didn’t say what kind the usb drive your using but if the mobo,cable,psu went bad then yes try looking at the drive . I have one of these just a example (not from that seller) and its works great.If the drive still lives it will show up as a removable drive. Let us know.
Don’t give up on it. I have a 500gb drive in a Freenas box that has a broken pin on the Ide. It still works but took a little work to boot.
Hell if drive is dead so you can’t hurt it. Take the enclosure apart and look. Put that drive in your desktop or laptop if it a 2.5 and see what happens. One bit of advice if you get it to mount save everything.
