The other day my computer screen went black and when I rebooted all I got was a blank screen and four bleeps - I can hear it boot into windows on the speakers but the monitor just says “no signal”. I’ve tried pushing the monitor cable into the socket better and tried different power supply leads into the graphics card and nothing - This to me sounds like a graphics card problem, as it boots into windows fine.
The card is a Powercolor GF 6800gt! I’ve had it a few years but its been fine, and I’ve tried all the connections for a loose one, tried pushing the card further into the slot etc…
I just need some advice on what the four bleeps mean on turning it on… before I buy a new card - Any help would be greatly appreciated!
try the grfx card in another system, also try another grafx card in your system
to fully identify a beep code you need to know what your BIOS manufacturer is: AMI, Pheonix etc. etc.
4 Beeps: System timer failure
There is a problem with one or more of the timers used by the system to control functions on the motherboard.
Go to [link=http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/amiB4-c.html]this[/link] link, they have also provided the troubleshooting as well…
oh! right, i was mis understanding, don’t know what i was thinking, cos now you’ve said that it makes perfect sense, but the first beep code on your “beep code” page for pheonix BIOS is still 1-1-1-3 still a bit
the first beep code for the pheonix BIOS is [ul][li]1-1-1-3 = Verify Real Mode.[*]1-1-2-1 = Get CPU Type[/ul]

please look at the above image, and varify the first beep code is 1-1-1-3
please reread entire this entire thread, i asked “how you knew it was AMI BIOS” because the BIOS beep code page you posted, lists the beep codes acsendingly (so obviously, 1-1-1-1, would appear first in the list, but 1-1-1-3 appears first, indicating that the beep code 1-1-1-1 does not exist on a pheonix BIOS (as 1-1-1-3 is the first beep code listed)
BTW: i’m going in a while, just got 1 more post to make, i’ve got a bl**dy headache
