Friends upgrade...

My friend wants to do a slight upgrade on his computer, he just wants to get a new Graphics Card and RAM; his current system specs are:

Motherboard: ASUS A7V8X
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2200+ @ 1800 MHz
RAM: Melco 256MB PC2700-DDR333 (2.5-3-3-7)
HDD: Maxtor 40GB (YUK!)
Sound: PCI EMU10K1 chipset (SB Live!)
Graphics Card: GeForce4 MX 440
OS: Windows ME

He wants to spend £40 for new RAM and £100 for a new Graphics Card. The RAM doesn’t have to be performance stuff just value; he just needs more of it. What do you reckon would be good options? He can’t have a dual slot cooler on the graphics card as there’s some othe stuff crammed in there as well (god knows what to fill all them PCI slots…)

I was thinking some Crucial 512MB DDR PC2700 CAS2.5 and maybe a Leadtek WinFast GeForce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) or a Sapphire ATI Radeon X700 Pro 128MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) what do you reckon?

if he could stretch an extra £18 on the graphics card, he maybe could get somthing like an X800GT, there better than 6600gt and x700 right?

i am sure i seen an X800GT for £118 somewere, i will look around for it :).

Ahh cool, I thought they were out of his price range, I’ll see what you come up with and let him know…
