Gulf states attempt to stem online criticism
During the Arab Spring, censorship of the Internet was a mean to quell the uprisings. Which were started be the censorship itself. In Saudi Arabia, Internet censorship has been widespread since its introduction. Well, you can’t have a religious state and still allow people to think, can you? Does anyone rememebers the “Day of rage” on Facebook and Tweeter? It was called for by freedom activists in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Well, they ended up in jail, or worse. Still, Arab States - everyone’s friend!
