Right, I have £250 to spend to upgrade a computer, the new parts I will need are:
CPU + Heatsink/Fan
Motherboard with integrated sound card
Ram
Case
Network Card (If on motherboard then not needed seperate)
Graphics Card
I want the computer to be as fast as I can with this budget, the computer will just be used for downloading (little amounts), watching videos from Internet etc, just the average use.
I would like it to be as quiet as possible and if any of my budget left maybe have extra cooling.
Anyone give any advice on the hardware stated above to purchase?
The motherboard has integrated video, LAN, and sound…the last two are standard features on motherboards these days.
I know you didn’t request it, but I did put in a suggested power supply. These days, it’s become a much more critical component, so it is worth the money to have a good unit.
While 512MB is probably going to do you just fine, most on-board memory solutions make use of the system RAM, and given how relatively inexpensive 1GB is these days, it’s not going to hurt.
The CPU is retail, which includes a CPU cooling fan.
for watching videos and dowloading some stuff that rig should be good. If you wanna do some gaming and spend some more money you should probably get a 7300GT, its one of the best budget cards around.
Ok, thanks very much for all your replies. Just one more question, I currently have a 20GB hard drive in the system and the computer was bought in 1997 so it will be pretty old, will this still be ok to use, once its obviously been reformatted?
