My mothers HD in her Dell Inspiron 1150, has taken a big crap.
She called Dell for a replacement, and they, with very broken English, said it would be $170 for a 60gb HD.
She does not want to pay that, so she took it to a local computer guy (hack), who “lost” her HD, and has no replacement. She has since, given me the task of getting her a replacement.
I looked around the net to find one, but quickly became confused, being that i know next to nothing about Hardware.
At the moment I have her using a live distro of slax, just to use the net, witch she hates with the fire of a thousand sun’s.
We need a cheap (used/refurb is OK) HD, 20-60 gig, for a Dell Inspiron 1150.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I would suggest that you work out what drive is the best value for money… price divided by capacity = cost per GB, but also look at the cache memory (8mb is a ok size) and make sure that it is definetly a ATA drive that you buy and not a SATA drive (its the interface type, your mums laptop need a ATA drive)

Sorry guys, I guess this is a situation where it’s best to pay-up…at least you’ll have a working notebook ( check with Dell, this is true ). Any other route is fine if you know what you’re doing, but trying to fix something like this is a route to unhappyness…IMHO.
However, good luck if you go the DIY route, which I suspect you will.
