I have this weird problem with my HDs on my home computer. The problem is, that my system starts freezing for about 10-20secs at a time and then you can operate it for like 5secs and then the freeze comes again. If i open my balcony door and open the case, it seems to solve the problem. This would indicate that the temperature in the system goes too high. In this situation, if i manage to reboot, it many times only finds my newer SATA drive and not the two older IDE drives. Sometimes it even has reported a disc error on startup. Then if i just shut the system down for a sec, it works again. The curious fact is that all my HD/CPU/PSU/SYSTEM temperatures are fine and I also have a separate fan for my HDs. I’ve also scanned the hard drives, defragmented them and used different scanners to see their health. The older ones are around 65% health which is said to be normal. And when everything works, i can use the data from the drives totally normally so there are no corrupt parts that prevent me using the data on them.
Im a musician and the anoying thing is that this seems to also affect the sound processing in the computer. Sound cracks and stuff. This leads me to a question? Could this be a problem somewhere in the other hardware and that hardware is causing the other problems second handedly to seem like its the hard drives? Could it be a motherboard issue? Could a broken audio or video card somehow make my system go bonkers? Or could the problem with the HDs be somehow invisible to all the scans and health software?
Has anyone had a simular malfunction in their system?
What strikes me as odd that both the IDE HDs are always lost at the same time so the problem could be somewhere else too.

Windows XP
Asus MB (cant remember the model right now, i need to check it)
Intel Dual Core E6600 @ 2,4Ghz
2GB 800MHZ DDR memory
Geforce 7950GT
M-Audio Audiophile 2496
1x SATA HD 160gb
2x IDE HD 160gb
