Hi everyone, hope you are are well & Happy (it is Friday!!)
Can anyone help me with a problem I have with my Epson 640 printer.
It’s only printing black & white.
I have inserted a new colour cartridge and downloaded the latest Drivers from the Epson site but I still can not get colours to printout.
Each time I run the nozzle clean function i get the black boxes printed, then in place of the colour boxes I get “OB3187”.
I have found the same fault raised on a couple of other sites, but as yet no answer.
I have been in touch with epson, but they are not much help.
Check the Ink option in the printer driver may be set to Black only or a setting in the software may be set to print black only. Maybe the print head nozzles may be clogged?
are you using an Epson cartridge or a compatible one?
I think its the drivers because it prints OB3187" instead of colour boxes?! maybe you can try older drivers?
Hi Sniper,
Thanks for a quick reply to my problem.
I went to the Epson site and down loaded the latest windows XP drivers (epson1526eu.exe).
When I went to install the drivers, an error told me that the drivers were not designed for Window XP and recommended that I obtained a Later version from the manufacturer !!.
I will now go back to the Epson support center and ask for advise.
Thanks again for your help,
Hi Sniper,
I tried downloading the drivers you suggested, but the fault still gives the same error number.
Maybe its time for me to think about buying anothr printer? I shouldn’t think Epson are bothered about supporting an old model like mine!
I would just like to say thanks for the time & effort you’ve given to try and help me with this problem. It doesn’t seem quite as bad when you kmow that youre not alone trying to resolve a problem.
Thanks again.

Hi Sniper,
:swt:
No good, I’m afraid its the same Error number again.
Do you know if there is any way I can check to see if the heads are blocked?
I removed the colour cartridge and I can tell that there is int in it (its a new cartridge) I just wondered if nozzles might be blocked?
I don’t want to poke about too much as I’m too sure what I should & shouldn’t be touching?
:good: Hi Sniper,
Just a quick line to let you know that I have at last fixed my printer fault.
It turns out that the print heads were blocked.
I sprayed the heads with some cleaner that I was give from a friend at work and gradually the coulour ink began to flow through.
After performing three head clean function the printer is now working.
Yippee.
Thanks again for all your time & help.
