I am interested in buying an external 80GB hard drive. Most websites only note that these external drives are for backup of computers. Can you use an external hard drive to install games, so if i have a laptop i can use the external usb drive to run games off? Just so that the games dont take up valuable space on my main laptop hard drive.
It functions exactly like a normal hard disk, except its portable and has its own case to prevent damage. Some external disks have a backup power supply in case power is lost, but as to the best of my knowledge, its fine for games.

An external hard drive is precisely that.

thats great thanks. I thought it was just as a standard hard drive, but portable. Just had a light niggleing at the back of my mind seen as the only parts its pointed out for is backup.

Thata just ponted out because they are very good for backing up your hard drive
You can actually buy external drive kits which you get your own internal drive (usually cheaper than external) and fit it with a pretty sleek external case with USB/power ports.
