Hi folks,
I hope this is right section for this question and I’m desperately hoping someone might be able to help after the hours and hours I’ve spent on this.
I had a copy of the game Dragon Age Origins bought for me as a present a while ago and on loading the game I’ve been having problems with certain textures not loading. Everything else seems fine, there’s no stuttering or slow performance it’s just some textures (such as floors and some walls) are simply missing. I’ve been through a lot of troubleshooting with the EA staff but never came up with a fix.
I have just started trying to play EQ2 again on my machine and this is the second game that has missing textures - much the same sort of thing.
I can play other games with no issues at all - such as BFBC2.
I recently upgraded my Nvidia Drivers to the latest non-beta and since then I’ve been experiencing BSOD - 124 - every time I try and play EQ2. Stupidly I didn’t make a note of what driver I had before so efforts at installing older drivers haven’t yielded a positive change yet.
My system is:
CPU: Core 2 Duo 6600 - 2.4Ghz
Mobo: EVGA 680i SLI
RAM: 2GB Corsair Dominator
GPU: XFX Geforce 8800 GTX 768mb
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Sound: Soundblaster X-Fi Fatality Pro
I can’t remember the details of the PSU but it seemed pretty decent.
In case it means anything I’m running Comodo and Avast - as EA suggested they might have an effect.
Please could anyone help out with suggestions or guide me towards some guides online. I’m not overflowing with cash so I’m hoping it’s not a hardware replacement issue - and am confused as to why it would be when BFBC2 can run on full settings.
I’m happy to provide any more information as asked.
Thanks in advance
Matt
Just as a quick update - not sure if it’s relevant. In DAO if I move the camera around at certain angles the textures will appear. Moving the camera around again can result in them disappearing.
If you check your hard drive, is there an NVidia folder with past drivers there? I think the drivers usually unzip to their own folders so you might still have the one that used to work for EQ2 still on your system. Also, I know it may seem a bit drastic but you could also try doing a system restore from an earlier date when the previous drivers were installed. The problems sound like a driver or compatability issue to me. When I played, I had a similar system board, same card, and same firewall and antivirus as you have and EQ2 didnt give the problems you describe. Have you tried reinstalling the games from scratch to see if that would repair any corrupted files?
Hi Wildcard and thanks for your response!
I’ll have a look and see if I can find any old drivers. I think my concern came about because I had the same texture issue on DAO but it didn’t make sense to me so I wanted to ask what people thought.
I’ve re-installed a few drivers, each time using Driver Sweeper in safe mode etc.
I’ve not yet tried re-installing EQ2 but I have re-installed DAO several times with no change. I’ve even installed a new OS - from XP to 7.
Any other suggestions?
You can maybe try a defrag on the hard drive as well, sometimes I have seen drive fragmentation cause weird errors like this with games. Also, some games like Age of Conan have an option to repair and compact files/data bases which often solved issues like this for me. Something else you could try as kind of a long shot is to run a memory test on your systems RAM in case one of you memory sticks is giving errors. You can also try running dxdiag (go to start, then run, then type dxdiag and hit enter) to see if directX is coming up with any errors as well.
